UAAU Members

Overview

UAAU is an umbrella association for urban authorities in Uganda. Founded in 1959 by the then (4) municipalities of Kampala, Jinja, Mbale and Masaka, it was registered on May 19, 2008 as a company limited by guarantee. In 2014, it was registered as a Non -Governmental Organization. Since 1959 it has grown from strength to strength, to the extent that we now have 11 cities, 25 city divisions, 31 municipalities, 89 Municipal divisions , and 586 town councils totaling to 742 urban councils. Its main mandate is to advocate for the Urban future through improved funding to Local Governments, better policies and good governance, aimed at enhancing service delivery.

With the advent of rapid urbanization mainly due to rural urban migration coupled with the set in of decentralization processes, the Association now has 1 City Authority, 10 cities, 25 City Divisions, 31 Municipalities, 586 Town Councils and 91 Municipal Divisions that constitute its membership
