Welcome to Kotido Municipality
Overview
Kotido Municipality, located in Northern Uganda, serves as the administrative and commercial center of Kotido District, predominantly inhabited by the Karamojong people. Its economy revolves around agriculture and livestock rearing, particularly cattle trading. The region's semi-arid climate, with frequent droughts, poses challenges to agricultural productivity. Despite having basic infrastructure such as schools and health centers, Kotido faces issues like inadequate healthcare and educational facilities. Rich in Karamojong culture, the area offers unique cultural tourism opportunities. However, it also deals with security concerns related to cattle raiding and conflicts among pastoralists. Various development programs aim to improve health, education, water, sanitation, and food security, addressing the pervasive poverty and climate change impacts.
